Mikaela Mayer hopes to end UK hoodoo when she faces Chantelle Cameron in super-welterweight world title clash in Birmingham

Mikaela Mayer is confident of snapping her losing world title run in England and securing the biggest win of her career to date when she meets Chantelle Cameron in a high-stakes unification clash this August, live on Your Site.

Mayer's only two previous professional defeats have come on UK soil, with a controversial split-decision loss to Alycia Baumgardner in London in 2022 and another split-decision loss to Natasha Jonas in Liverpool in January 2024.

Despite those setbacks, she has no trepidation in returning to fight British star Cameron on UK soil in Birmingham on Saturday August 29.

"It's a great fight," said Mayer. "From my business mind, I think this fight is a lot better served in the UK versus Orlando, Florida, so I'm going to make that happen - it really wasn't an issue for me," she told Your Site.

"I know I haven't always had the best luck over there in the UK, but I've always said that hasn't deterred me from coming back there. I love fighting over there, I love the fans over there, the people, the energy in the arena - it's always great.

"I'm just going to have to go and get it done this time. Three's a charm!"

Mayer has an impressive resume, having won 22 of her 24 fights in becoming a three-weight world champion.

Cameron, who is a two-weight world champion herself, has also excelled in the professional ranks, winning 22 of 23 fights to date.

Despite those credentials, the American is nonetheless confident she has what it takes to emerge victorious on the night.

"I'm excited for this fight. I wanted to fight Chantelle Cameron for a long time, and I think that she's wanted it as well.

"I think I just put my combinations together better at this stage right now. You can see it in the Sandy Ryan fight and see it in the Mary Spencer fight, putting my combinations together.

"I think I know that Chantelle likes to come forward and bang on the inside, but I do that better. I'm a better inside fighter. So, if she wants to take it there, which I'm sure it'll get there because with our styles it is how we like to fight, that's where I feel like I'll dominate and I'll shine."

As well as being WBO champion at 147 pounds, the former Olympian also holds the WBC and WBA belts at 154 pounds after a commanding unanimous points victory over Mary Spencer in Montreal.

Cameron won the WBO super-welterweight title in April, a belt Mayer had won then vacated just months prior.

Should she defeat the Brit in August for her old title, the 35-year-old would be one step closer to becoming undisputed, with Oshae Jones the current IBF titleholder.

Lauren Price holds the WBA, WBC and IBF belts at welterweight and Mayer admits her goal is to hold all the belts in either weight division.

"The one thing to me is that going undisputed means that you challenge the best. That's always been my goal, to get in the ring and challenge myself and test myself against the best. So undisputed is great, but it's really about challenging the best in each division," she said.

"Lauren Price is obviously the next in line at 147. Once I take my belt back from Chantelle, because she did fight for the belt I just vacated, you have Oshae Jones assuming she gets through her rematch this weekend.

"She [Jones] is my good friend as well, so that'll suck, but we've got to do what we've got to do. I'll be one fight away from undisputed in each division, which is great, but still like that last fight, [that] can always be the most difficult.

"I've just got to keep taking one fight at a time. You never know what's going to happen in this sport - I've definitely learned that if anything."

Having inflicted Katie Taylor's sole defeat in the pro ranks, Cameron is no stranger to the spotlight and can't wait for the fight to take place.

She told Your Site: "I think women's boxing needed a fight like this. I think our styles are just going to make for a good fight. I think it's the female fight of the year.

"If it wasn't, I'd be really shocked. I've wanted this fight for a long time. I feel like I need the names like Mikaela Mayer to get the best out of me, and that's all this fight's definitely going to do. It's going to bring the best out of me.

"I think she's improved a lot. Like she said, we're going to meet in the middle. There's no way one of us is going to be running around for 10 rounds, so we're going to meet in the middle. But Mikaela thinks she's better on the inside, but I also think I'm better on the inside. So may the best woman win!"
